Text: Acts 4:1-31

Sometimes the significance of what God is saying in and through me does not fully set in until I am actually speaking the words on Sunday morning.  This was certainly the case for me this week.  In particular are the following words from the end of yesterday’s message, after sharing the image of our heart being guided by a committee of competing interests:

What kind of authority does Jesus have in your life?

If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord and received the free gift of grace that sets you free from your sin, what place does Jesus have?

Does Jesus have a seat on the committee of your heart?  Or, is he chairman of the board?

Is Jesus one among equally valued members?  Or, does he have the authority to overrule any and all attempts to sidetrack you from following his lead?

These are questions between you and God.  But know that whatever degree of authority Jesus has in your life right now, Jesus is more than willing to come in and take over.

And when he does, everything else will fall into place.  In fact, submitting to Jesus’ authority is all about finding freedom… freedom from the tyranny of ourselves and freedom from the expectations others have on us.

I encourage you this week to think about the place Jesus has in your life.  Ask yourself the questions mentioned above and be open to Jesus’ leading and guiding you.  Ask God to help you yield more fully to his control and find freedom and peace.

I will be asking the same questions too and would love to hear from any of you who feel led to share your thoughts and insights with me.

May the Lord bless you as you walk with Jesus this week!
