Text: Acts 2:42-3:26
In our text this week, Peter helps his fellow Jews by showing them how Jesus fits into the grand story of God’s people. In 3:13, he says that “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus.” He also quotes the book of Deuteronomy which records Moses saying, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you” (3:22). Then, in the last part of chapter 3, Peter connects Jesus to the words of the prophets, who spoke of a time when God would make good on his promise to Abraham that “…through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.” With great sensitivity and grace, Peter puts Jesus in his rightful place within the grand story of God and his people.
The beauty of God’s grand story is that you and I are invited into it! When we profess our faith in Jesus, we become heirs of God’s promise and are invited to be part of the unfolding story of God’s people.
This week, I encourage you carve out a few minutes to read Peter’s message in Acts 3:11-26 again and ask yourself the following questions:
Is Jesus shaping the story of your life?
(If no) What might be keeping you from giving Jesus this opportunity? Whatever this may be, ask God to help you let go of it and allow Jesus the space to begin this work in you.
(If yes) How is your life contributing to the grand story of God’s people? What can you do to be more open to his shaping in your life?
